Plaza Theater
The Plaza Theater opened its doors on September 12, 1930, to hold a capacity of 2,410 people. At one time it was advertised as the largest of its kind between Dallas and Los Angles. The Plaza Theater can show stage shows, and movies. The theater features a blue sky ceiling, with stars that appear when the lights dim before the show starts.
In 1986 a decision was made to demolish the Plaza Theater to make a new parking lot. El Paso Community Foundation began to fund raise the required $1 million dollars to save the Plaza Theater from being demolished. The foundation was successful in saving the theater. El Paso Community Foundation decided to put a new roof on the theater, and was soon donated to the City of El Paso in 1990.
